Our mission
… To serve and address the interests of people who are in conflict or disagreement or who wish to plan for a better future for themselves, their government, or their courts.
Jay Bryan Consulting and Mediation
Disputes and court matters can be a weighty and time-consuming experience for most people. Jay Bryan Consulting and Mediation aims to make them efficient and productive, and take some of the pain and mystery out of them. As a mediator, I create a safe atmosphere for people to discuss their conflicts, explore options for settlement, and agree on settlement terms. Mediation can include cases involving personal injury, family law and custody, probate, estates, workers compensation, and other matters.
My expertise and practice also include Court Consulting. I bring my career experiences as Judge, Attorney, and Mediator to bear on issues of court function, strategic planning, stakeholder cooperation, and user relations. My skills can be particularly useful in courts that necessitate a familiarity with specific practices, such as drug treatment, family, juvenile, and dependency courts.
My 10 years on the Carrboro Board of Aldermen, as well as my service as chair of the Orange County Planning Board provide valuable perspective for Facilitating Town and County Government, especially in helping to manage the impact on local residents of growth, location of facilities, or government policies, and in working to assist internal departments with their planning.

Areas of Practice
Mediation
In mediations after and before a lawsuit is filed, the neutral mediator can create a safe atmosphere for people to discuss conflicts, explore options for settlement, and agree on settlement terms. Mediators open channels of communication for each side to see the pros and cons of their perspectives and interests. The process empowers people to control the outcome of their disagreements and avoid protracted litigation.
Court Consulting
Judicial systems can benefit from consultation on issues of court function, strategic planning, building needs, stakeholder cooperation, and court user relations. Individual courts can also profit from consultation and technical advice, particularly courts that require familiarity with a specific culture, the different character of the participants, and the manner in which court business is conducted.
Facilitation – Local Governments
When town and county governments plan for growth and changes, facilitation can help manage the impact on local residents. Examples can include the location of new facilities or construction projects. Facilitation can help with issues such as school policy and law enforcement, and assist departments in planning annual goals or addressing the interests of all employees.
